I tried to keep up with some of their discussions and apply what I learned in my own matches, but I had the feeling that rather than gaining a deeper understanding of the strategy title, I was losing some of its unique flavor. There are players who clearly have more time, and I do too, who spend time not only playing Wargame Red Dragon but also carefully analyzing their replays and those created by other top-level gamers in order to glean information about the overall balance. That’s when I entered the fascinating and at times weird universe of meta-game analysis, where players debate what are the best ways to build decks, which units are dominating the battlefield, and how to counter the most common enemy strategies. I tend to play mostly 1 versus 1 matches and I have two or three that I actually like playing, and after suffering some losses, I was unable to properly explain how it happened, so I started to read the official forums before jumping into battle, mainly in order to keep up with the changes introduced by the development team. The core of the experience involves choosing a nation and a specialization, building a deck out of the available units, and then choosing a battleground before facing against an enemy player or a team. My most recent long-term obsession when it comes to competitive multiplayer action is Wargame Red Dragon, the new military-themed real-time strategy title from developer Eugen Systems and publisher Focus Home Interactive, which I have been playing every weekend since it was launched earlier in the year. If you have dropped your script file into the AppleScript app bundle, moving the app will break the path and your script won’t run.Ī way around this is to use the “path to resource” command. The only catch with this method, is that we are using an absolute path to the actual script. You can add “with administrator privileges” if the commands in your script require admin access. You follow the “do shell script” command with the path to the script you want to run. The main command to use is “do shell script”. You can use it to build self-contained applications, with the script buried inside. AppleScriptĪppleScript is a very neat way to let your users run scripts. It would be much better if you can provide them with a dock icon that can mount the drives when it is convenient for them. For desktop machines, you can use an automated trigger like login, but if they are laptop users who are in and out of the office, this would require them to login while they are on the LAN to get their drives. A good example is the mounting of network drives. I’ve come across lots of scenarios where fully automating the running of a script isn’t appropriate. We are going to take a look through a few user initiated options, including AppleScript applications, package installers, Platypus apps and automator.Īnd then we’ll look at the automated options like running a script on a timed interval, using an event such as login or wake, or third party triggers from Casper or Munki. Next you need to decide how or when you want your script to run. If you are following along during the podcast you can of course have as long or as short a script as you would like but I would recommend starting with something fairly basic. I’m using these commands because they are simple, will run under almost any user account, and with the receipt file I will easily be able to tell whether the script has run or not. Once the script runs as you intended, you can add more content, or replace it with another script. A very simple script is always a good place to start so you can make sure your trigger is working. I’m starting off with a short script that creates a receipt file named by the current date & time. If your script has syntax errors or other general mistakes preventing it from running, it will make troubleshooting much more complicated. For example, if a script that is reading data from a network directory service is running at start-up, you will need to make sure the commands you have included will still function correctly when the machine is not fully booted.Īnd finally, make sure you test your script heavily before worrying about the trigger. Secondly, you will need to ensure the environment is suitable for the script. Root obviously has full access to the file system but a script triggered by an Active Directory user will only have write access to their home area so depending on what you want your script to do, you may need to take this into account. Depending on how you trigger the script will have an effect on which user it will run as. There are a few reasons why this can happen…įirst, consider which users will be running it. That being said, there are a few cases where your script runs fine manually in the Terminal, but using an automated trigger it fails. As you can imagine, if your script doesn’t work, the trigger isn’t going to help. The first step in this process is to get a functional script. If you are unsure, I would recommend starting by looking at Darren Wallace’s blog post “Bash Scripting – Getting Started. This podcast assumes that you have a reasonable level of understanding around scripting and Mac OS X. Now before we get started, it would probably be a good idea to mention a few prerequisites. We’ll also cover event based triggers such as login, logout or sleep, and finally, how you can leverage third party programs such as Casper or Munki to provide a trigger mechanism. We’ll take a look at how you can let your users initiate the scripts, using AppleScript applications and payload free package installers. Agendaĭuring this podcast, we will take a look at running scripts at scheduled intervals by using CRON & LaunchD. So today I will be covering some of the options for triggering scripts (and other actions) in Mac OS X. As many of you will be aware, Mac OS X has a rich set of UNIX tools under the hood that can be leveraged to make the end users life a little easier.Īlthough scripting is an art form in itself, when you start writing scripts for OS X, working out how to get the script triggered at the right time and by the right user account can be a challenge. One of my roles here is to develop technical solutions for our customers. My name is David Acland and I’ll be taking you through triggering scripts in Mac OS X. Hello and welcome to this technical podcast from Amsys. Now head back to the left to the fish sitting near the underwater mine. Use the snail on the eel to remove its shell. Worms will probably be following you, so swim all the way to the right side to the door and interact with it to open it, revealing an eel that will electrocute and kill all the worms following you. Swim out and back into the main area, then swim down the lower opening on the left side. Swim up the upper left opening into the caves and take the lower path to the cave at the end, grabbing the snail there. The drunken earthworm is the boss at the end of the second chapter of the game and is a pretty simple boss. Walk over to it and interact with it to eat it and unlock this achievement. It'll try to eat the food in the oven and be killed. Hide your head in the trash can while you wait for the chicken. Interact with the temperature dial in the upper left, turn the gas on in the upper right, and then use the matches on the gas coming out in the lower right. Put the flour, maggots, and eggs into the pan in the middle. You should have plenty of time before the chicken comes back, but if it is coming back you can always hide your head in the trash can on the right side of the screen. You now need to do a bunch of stuff with the oven. Now back out and grab the flour from on the counter on the right side of the oven. Once it's past you, take your head and walk right to the cabinet on the left of the oven and interact with it. Hide your head in the nearby platter at the bottom of the screen so it walks past you without killing you. As you approach the chicken, it'll start walking towards you. Take the eggs and then use the knife on the strands hanging from the top shelf to cut it free, then interact with them to make a monster pop out. Before approaching it, grab the knife off the table and then go into the fridge at the top of the screen. The headless chicken is the boss at the end of the first chapter of the game. I highly recommend this game for anyone who likes the genre, weird games, or just a fast and easy completion. It's definitely a game that will keep you entertained and interested the entire way, even if you follow a guide, just because of how graphic and odd it is. Good luck following the story and all the weird happenings. You can use that to mop up anything you missed.īulb Boy is a really weird, interesting, crazy, and intense point and click game. Upon completing the game you should have all of the achievements, but if not, you can walk over to the dresser on the left side of the screen and interact with it to get a chapter select screen. " Drunken Earthworm Defeated" (story-related) " Headless Chicken Defeated" (story-related) Here is the order in which the achievements are unlocked so you can more easily use the guide as you progress through the game: If you die more than the unique deaths and it unlocks early, then you can ignore the rest of the deaths in that achievement solution. To be safe though, I recommend keeping that achievement solution handy and get each unique death as you progress. However, this achievement seems to be glitched in a good way: it unlocked for me and many others after 20 total deaths, not the 20 unique deaths. Note that the " All Faces Of Death" achievement requires you to die in the 20 unique ways throughout the entire game. There are four story-related achievements, three for dying in certain ways, and the remaining five are miscellaneous ones. All of the achievements are very easy to grab as you progress, but thankfully there is also a chapter select after beating the game too, so there isn't much to worry about as you play. It's full of gross actions and deaths, but since it's a point and click adventure game it's pretty straightforward and easy to complete. The animation reminds me of Ren and Stimpy with some of the graphic scenes, and the atmosphere and mood remind me of something out of Saladfingers. Welcome to Bulb Boy, a point and click adventure game with a dark twisted atmosphere. Unobtainable/glitched achievements: " All Faces Of Death" seems to unlock early Does difficulty affect achievements: No difficulty option Minimum number of playthroughs needed: 1 Approximate amount of time to 1000 : 1-2 hours Estimated achievement difficulty: 2/10 “Healing is subjective and is dependent on factors such as your overall health, sleep and stress levels, and your aftercare regimen,” says Freed. How long does a helix piercing take to heal? But the pain is temporary, and your beautiful new piercing is forever. Cartilage tissue is denser, which can require more force to pierce through, resulting in a bit more pain. Does it actually hurt more than the lobe? “Pain tolerance varies, but generally your helix will hurt more than your lobes as it is less fleshy,” says Freed. Let’s get real about helix piercing pain. So whether you’re piercing the top end or somewhere just above the midpoint of your ear-if it’s middle, then it’s a “midi”-you’re still a part of the helix-adorned club. A snakebite piercing on the helix is when you have two piercings along the ear close to each other. A flat helix lies on the flat part of the inside of your ear, while a forward helix is on the cartilage closest to your face. “Anatomically, the term helix describes that area of the ear.” However, there are names for different placements along that curve. “A helix piercing is any piercing along the upper and outside cartilage ridge of the ear,” says Studs piercer Shannon Freed. You may have seen some piercings placed in slightly different locations along the ear and wondered if they all qualify as the helix. Find out everything you need to know about helix piercings, below. Most important, you’ll learn about essential aftercare from the team at Studs, the millennial’s go-to jewelry brand and piercing studio. Read on to learn what, exactly, a helix is and whether a piercing there is actually more painful than one in the rest of the ear. Maybe this is the first you’re hearing of it, and you want to know what’s so hot about this placement. Maybe you’ve been thinking about getting a helix piercing for a while to complete your earscape. And like a piercing in the lobe, the helix piercing is on its way to becoming a classic. Whether it’s a dainty detail or a bold statement, it’s always perched toward the top of the ear and gives you an easy way to switch up your look. You’ve probably seen a helix piercing around. Results of these field observations and feeding trials are discussed in relation to the hypothesis that cyclic declines of snowshoe hare populations are initiated by overwinter food shortage. Mortality of malnourished captive hares was significantly related to ambient winter temperatures. Marked changes occurred in nutrient levels of 6 common browse species monitored during 1969-74, but these appeared unrelated in any causal way to changes in hare population parameters. Browsing-intensity surveys conducted in 1971, at the end of the peak winter, disclosed that almost 50% of the woody stems had been severely or heavily browsed 2 years later, less than 2% were so intensively browsed. Twenty hare exclosures and their control plots, established in 1968 and sampled in summer 19, showed that hares had reduced the total biomass of woody stems ≤1.5 cm in diameter by more than 50%. Food was insufficient for hare populations on 2 study areas during a cyclic peak (winter 1970-71) and the following winter food was still in short supply on a 3rd study area 2 winters after the peak. Food supplies were measured near Rochester, Alberta, during 6 consecutive winters, (1970-71 to 1975-76). Winter feeding experiments with captive snowshoe hares (Lepus americanus) indicated a mean daily requirement of about 300 g of woody browse having a maximum diameter of 3-4 mm. Species preferring grassy habitats were less abundant on treated than untreated plots. However, effective control of herbaceous vegetation altered the species composition of small mammal communities, as they responded according to their habitat preferences. Mark-recapture data showed that the kinds and numbers of small mammals were similar between the sides of each designated area before treatment. Microtus oregoni, Peromyscus maniculatus, Sorex vagrans, Sorex trowbridgii, and Zapus trinotatus - comprising 95 percent of the total small mammal community - were abundant enough for meaningful evaluation. However, survival and growth of Douglas-fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii) and growth of most shrubs were greater in treated areas. Herbicide treatments reduced the number of plant species, chiefly grasses and forbs, and ground cover. Vegetation and small mammal communities were sampled before and after herbicide applications, on both treated and untreated areas. Halves of three clearcuttings in western Oregon were treated in the springs of 19 with a combination of herbicides, principally atrazine and 2,4-D, to control herbaceous vegetation. gypseum), it may represent a source of infection for gamekeepers, hunters and veterinarians.
